Get Down to Business@School

Munich International School Grade 11 International Baccalaureate are diving into the exciting world of business through an elective program Business@School designed by Boston Consulting Group. This year-long course equips students with practical knowledge and real-world skills, offering an engaging way to inspire entrepreneurial thinking.

The Business at School unfolds in three dynamic phases:

Phase 1: Multinational Company Analysis. Students, working in groups, analyzed a multinational company of their choice. This phase concluded with insightful discussions and collaborations between MIS students.

Phase 2: Local Business Exploration. Currently underway, this phase involves analyzing a small local company.

Phase 3: Developing Business Ideas. The final phase requires students to create and pitch their own business ideas. The top team will represent the school in an international competition in Milan Italy, where they will compete with peers from around the world.

Among the standout teams this year of phase 1 is group "Entreprenerds," composed of Jordan Toogood, David Comor, Yannick Steil, Frederic Becker-Staudt. These driven students aim to enhance their business skills and tackle real-life challenges.
The journey hasn’t been without its hurdles, and some of these challenges have truly tested the students’ resilience.
The team identified time management as their biggest hurdle. To overcome this, they utilized free periods for collaboration and worked independently when schedules didn’t align. Their commitment to finding time outside of regular lessons not only advanced their project but also honed their self-management skills.

The team has received valuable support from the school, including guidance from teachers and Grade 12 mentors. Frederic is confident in his passion for business and excited to pursue it as a career in the future. While not all students share the same enthusiasm for business, they recognize the value of the skills gained through this elective, such as collaboration and teamwork.
"Even if I’m not planning to study business in the future, this elective is a fantastic way to develop new skills," David shared.
For the Entreprenerds team, being part of this project has been a transformative experience.

"It was important for us to communicate and build strong relationships as a team," Yannick explained. Together, they overcame challenges, improved their ability to work independently, and mastered time management—skills they believe will benefit them in the future.

Jordan’s advice to Grade 10 students considering this elective next year - "If you have a passion for business and a willing to work hard, this program is absolutely worth it.”

Their key message? "Don’t procrastinate."

A special thank you goes out to Senior School Business and Economic teachers Laurie Williamson, Lisa Gill and all the supporters who have helped these students thrive.

Stay tuned for updates on Phase 2, and we wish the best of luck to all the teams as they continue their journey!
