The Munich International School Ski Team took the GoPro on a typical training weekend to capture their activities on the slopes. Ski Team member and MIS 11th-grader Anna filmed and edited this footage. Anna reports that "this weekend, the MIS Ski team traveled to Kühtai in Austria to train Slalom for our upcoming race. With fresh snow and blue skies, we had perfect conditions. We had a lot of fun on the slopes, as well as off the slopes!"
Wish our team luck at the Heinrich Harrer Cup (HHC), a 3-Day race traditionally hosted by MIS in honor of Heinrich Harrer. You may be familiar with his book Seven Years in Tibet, published in 28 languages with more than 2.5 million copies sold. He was a mountaineer and explorer, who died on January 7th, 2006 at age 93. The Heinrich Harrer Cup ski races were founded in 1975. Two MIS students, Wolfgang Vollath, Martin Rose, along with their teacher Dan Glover established the event together with Heinrich Harrer as patron.
The competition has now been running for 48 years. Our Ski Team competes in his memory and with his spirit each year. Ski Team Captain and MIS 12th-grader Nikita echoes Heinrich's love of adventure by describing the joy of skiing as "a feeling of freedom and liberty - not only from the skiing, but also from the environment you are in with the beautiful mountains".
