New Mama Bus Hits the Road

MamabusJuly 2024 trip[23]
Through the Tanzania Project, MIS supports multiple organizations and schools in Tanzania. One of the projects MIS raised funds for last school year was towards the purchase of a "Mama Bus". Twice a week, a nurse and a driver go out into the bush to provide pre and post-natal care to women who are unable to get to a doctor's office. The Mama Bus with the nursing team & driver have to navigate rough terrain and flood lands, as evidenced by the below photo taken by MIS students during the 2024 summer trip to Tanzania (below).

Their last vehicle broke down and was too expensive to repair, so FT Kilimanjaro (FTK) raised funds to purchase a new vehicle. FTK is an NGO MIS has worked with in Tanzania, dedicated to providing families in Lower Moshi with access to basic health care, education, and opportunities to be productive and earn a livelihood for themselves and their families, and to do so in a self-sustaining and environmentally sustainable manner.

A report released by FTK explains that "a good quality Toyota Landcruiser Hardtop was identified as the best option for this purpose with a cost of around €78,000 (Tsh 230 million) including necessary modifications. After proposing this to FEMI, they were very sympathetic to the project and decided to donate a large sum. Other foreign donors that made an essential contribution were: Dito Beheer BV, Munich International School, TSD-export Tour Services, Driving Nurses, Patry rail handling, and MORE Foundation."

The new bus has just arrived, and we'd like to share the good news!
